Building a Digital Growth Engine for Sundry Agro

How I built the brand, content, SEO and marketing function for an emerging grocery-commerce business.

brand strategy development

The Challenge

Sundry Agro was building an online grocery marketplace designed to make grocery shopping more convenient for customers who wanted to order food and household essentials without having to navigate the traditional market-shopping experience.

The opportunity was clear, but building a digital grocery brand from the ground up required more than simply creating social media posts or running promotions. The business needed a recognizable brand, a clear digital presence, a content system, and a marketing function capable of consistently communicating its value to the right audience.

When I joined as the founding digital marketing lead, there was an opportunity to build these foundations intentionally rather than allow the company's digital presence to develop in disconnected pieces. The challenge was therefore broader than visibility.

Sundry Agro needed to establish who it was, who it was for, why customers should trust it, how it should communicate its value, and how digital marketing could contribute to business growth. I had to think about the entire system rather than one channel in isolation.

My Objective

My objective was to build a digital marketing foundation that could support Sundry Agro's growth as the business developed. That meant working across several connected areas:

Establish a recognizable and credible brand identity.

Clarify how the business should present itself online.

Build a structured content strategy instead of relying on ad-hoc posting.

Use content and SEO to increase organic visibility.

Create marketing assets that could move people from awareness toward action.

Support commercial campaigns and promotional initiatives.

Build and coordinate a marketing team capable of executing the strategy.

Develop materials that could communicate the business to investors and strategic partners.

My Approach

I approached the project as a growth and systems problem. Rather than treating branding, content, SEO, campaigns and team management as separate activities, I looked at how they could work together:

Brand →

Content →

Visibility →

Trust →

Conversion →

Growth

That became the foundation for the work.

Creating a recognizable identity for a new digital grocery brand

One of my first priorities was making sure Sundry Agro had a visual identity that could support the positioning we wanted to build.

I designed the company’s brand identity, including the logo, colour palette and supporting visual assets. The goal wasn’t simply to make the brand look attractive; the identity needed to create a consistent visual language that could be carried across its digital touchpoints.

For an e-commerce business, trust matters.

Customers need to feel confident that the business is legitimate, that the products are worth buying, and that the experience will be reliable before they hand over their money.

The visual identity therefore became part of the trust-building system.

What I focused on

  • Brand identity development
  • Logo and visual direction
  • Colour system
  • Digital brand assets
  • Consistency across marketing materials
  • Visual communication of the brand’s value

The resulting identity helped position Sundry Agro as a more premium grocery-delivery brand rather than simply another online seller of food items.

Moving from “what should we post?” to “what does the audience need to know?”

Once the brand foundation was established, the next challenge was content.

I didn’t want Sundry Agro’s content to become a constant stream of product promotions.

If every post tells people to buy something, the brand eventually becomes repetitive. More importantly, there is little reason for someone who isn’t ready to buy today to keep paying attention.

I developed the content strategy and editorial planning around the different ways content could contribute to the customer journey.

That meant balancing content designed to:

Attract attention → educate → build trust → demonstrate value → create desire → drive action.

The content strategy was therefore built around the audience’s everyday problems, not simply around the products Sundry Agro had available.

For example, grocery shopping isn’t just about buying food.

For a busy customer, it can mean finding time to shop, deciding what to buy, comparing prices, worrying about product quality, navigating crowded markets, carrying groceries home and repeating the entire process every week.

That gave the content strategy a much stronger foundation.

Instead of communicating only:

“We sell groceries.”

the brand could communicate:

“We understand the work involved in feeding a household, and we can make that experience easier.”

What I handled

  • Content strategy
  • Editorial planning
  • Content themes and pillars
  • Social content
  • Educational content
  • Promotional content
  • Conversion-focused content
  • Content production and coordination
  • Creative direction

I also developed content designed specifically to connect with busy households and food-focused customers, rather than treating the audience as one generic group.

Turning content into an acquisition channel

Social media could help Sundry Agro reach people, but I didn’t want the company’s visibility to depend entirely on social algorithms.

SEO became an important part of the broader content strategy.

I developed and worked with search-focused content designed to help the brand become discoverable when potential customers were actively looking for information related to groceries, food, cooking, shopping and related needs.

The strategy was based on a simple principle:

Create content around questions people are already asking, then connect that attention back to the brand’s products and value proposition.

This required thinking beyond keywords.

A piece of content could rank and still fail commercially if it attracted the wrong audience or had no relationship with what the business offered.

So I looked at SEO as part of the customer journey rather than an isolated traffic tactic.

My SEO work included

  • SEO content strategy
  • Keyword-led content planning
  • Search-focused blog content
  • On-page content optimization
  • Monitoring search performance
  • Using performance data to inform future content decisions

I also monitored SEO analytics to understand how Sundry Agro’s content was performing in search. SEO analytics and lead-generation assets are documented among the project’s marketing outputs.

The important shift

The objective wasn’t simply:

“Let’s publish more blog posts.”

It was:

“Let’s create useful content that can attract people through search and introduce them to the brand.”

That distinction shaped the way I approached content production.

Making content useful to the business

Visibility is only one part of marketing.

A brand can receive impressions, traffic and engagement without generating meaningful business results if there isn’t a clear path from attention to action.

I therefore worked on marketing assets designed to support conversion and lead generation.

These included lead magnets, ebooks, promotional materials, website banners and campaign creatives. My portfolio documents social media assets, gift-card designs and mockups, ebook/lead-magnet development, website banners, SEO analytics and lead-generation assets from the project.

The thinking behind these assets was to give the audience a reason to take the next step.

Instead of expecting every visitor to immediately become a customer, the marketing system could provide different entry points depending on where someone was in the buying journey.

This helped me approach content as part of a larger conversion system rather than as an end product.

Turning the brand into something people could buy from

Beyond evergreen content and SEO, I also supported campaigns designed around specific commercial objectives.

One example was the development of marketing assets around Sundry Agro’s gift-card offering.

Gift cards required a different communication approach from ordinary grocery promotions.

The audience wasn’t necessarily buying groceries for themselves. The value proposition could instead involve convenience, gifting, supporting loved ones, and giving recipients the flexibility to choose what they needed.

That meant the messaging and creative had to communicate the reason to buy, not just the existence of the product.

I applied the same principle across promotional campaigns: start with the customer need, communicate the value clearly, and then make the next action obvious.

Campaign work included

  • Campaign planning
  • Promotional messaging
  • Gift-card creative
  • Social media assets
  • Website banners
  • Lead-generation assets
  • Supporting content

This allowed the brand to move between long-term visibility activities and short-term commercial campaigns without losing consistency.

Strategy only works when there is a system for executing it.

One of the most significant parts of my role was building and coordinating the people responsible for bringing the marketing strategy to life.

As the founding digital marketing lead, I recruited and led a nine-person digital marketing team for one year.

This meant my role evolved beyond content and into team leadership, delegation, workflow management and cross-functional coordination.

Rather than trying to execute every marketing function myself, I helped create a structure in which different specialists could own different parts of the marketing process.

That included coordinating areas such as:

  • Content
  • Social media
  • Design
  • Video
  • Website management
  • Email marketing
  • Lead generation
  • Marketing operations

The objective was to create a marketing function that could operate consistently rather than depend entirely on one person.

The leadership challenge

Building a team isn’t simply about finding talented people.

The team also needs:

Clear responsibilities + clear expectations + communication + workflow + accountability.

I had to make strategic decisions about what needed to be done, who was best positioned to do it, how the work should move between functions and where improvements were needed.

This became an important part of my contribution to Sundry Agro’s growth.

The company’s founder later specifically highlighted the previous difficulty of finding the right digital marketing talent and credited my experience with helping recruit quality people, which contributed to stronger growth and online visibility.

Marketing wasn’t only about customers.

Another part of my work involved helping Sundry Agro communicate its business proposition to investors and potential strategic partners.

I created investor pitch decks and supporting presentation materials designed to communicate the company’s opportunity, model and growth potential.

This required a different type of marketing thinking.

Customer-facing content asks:

“Why should this person buy from us?”

Investor communication asks:

“Why is this business worth believing in and investing in?”

The ability to translate the business into a compelling narrative became another part of my role.

My portfolio documents investor pitch decks as part of the Sundry Agro work and states that these materials contributed to multiple successful fundraising rounds and strategic partnerships.

WHAT THIS PROJECT SAYS ABOUT HOW I WORK

I don’t see marketing as a collection of disconnected deliverables.

I look at the relationship between business goals, audience needs, positioning, content, distribution, conversion and execution.

That means I can step into a business that has scattered marketing activities and help turn them into a clearer system.

At Sundry Agro, that meant moving between strategy and execution: developing the brand, planning content, working on SEO, creating conversion assets, supporting campaigns, recruiting the marketing team and helping communicate the business to investors and partners.

The work required both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

Sundry Agro taught me that a content strategy becomes significantly more valuable when it is connected to the rest of the marketing system.

Brand creates recognition.

Content creates relevance.

SEO creates discoverability.

Conversion assets create movement.

Campaigns create action.

People and processes make the system repeatable.

When those pieces work together, marketing stops being a list of tasks and becomes a growth function.
